LINCOLN, Neb. — Authorities say a man was killed and several children were injured when their vehicle ran off a rural gravel road and crashed north of Lincoln.

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner says 24-year-old Daniel Dmitruk, of Northglenn, Colo., died Monday night. He was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by 16-year-old Matthew Matveyuk, of Velikiye Luki, Russia, who’s visiting the area with his family.

Authorities say four of the six passengers in the vehicle were Matveyuk’s siblings, ranging in age from 5 to 20. Two of them, a 5-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl, were listed in critical but stable condition. Authorities say only the driver and his front-seat passenger were wearing restraints.

Investigators think the rollover crash may have been caused by Matveyuk’s inexperience on gravel roads.
