AURORA, Colo. — We are learning a registered sex offender has been arrested for attempting to kidnap an 11-year-old girl.
Aurora police found the man after an intense hunt and investigation.
Turns out, he lives a block away from where the child says he tried to abduct her.
A 32-year-old sex offender is accused of trying to kidnap the child down the street from his home.
Eric Hamm, who lives nearby, said, “… I’m like nervous about it because I don’t know if there’s any more around here that are not registered…”.
Down a few doors from Eric Hamm’s home is where the attempted kidnapping happened Thursday.
It happened down the street from a Cherry Creek School.
Neighbors are concerned.
Libby Carter said, “Its such a good neighborhood. What’s happening. Why are things like this happening around here?”
The State of Colorado does not prohibit sex offenders from living near schools.
Police say Tyler Christensen was properly registered in his home near South Oakland and Exposition.
Aurora police say he did not appear to have violated any terms of his supervised release.
Daniel Cho said, “It’s kind of scary and they don’t like have to tell neighbors or anything. It doesn’t seem the safest for kids.”
Police arrested Christensen 22 hours after the attempted kidnapping in Aurora.
Investigators tells us he was a stranger to the girl.
Records show he was arrested in Grand Junction for a sex offense 11 years ago.
Back in this aurora neighborhood, people just thankful the 11-year-old girl is safe and back home.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says most sex offenders are supervised.
They are also monitored for compliance
