AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Aurora police are trying to determine what led up to a deadly shooting in a north Aurora alleyway on Saturday night.

At 9:18 p.m., the Aurora Police Department was called to the 1900 block of North Del Mar Parkway on reports of a shooting. Officers arrived and located a 26-year-old man in the east alleyway of that location suffering from a gunshot wound.

Aurora detectives are interviewing witnesses, gathering physical evidence and currently trying to identify a suspect.

Antonio Aguilera said there’s an unsettled calm feeling in the neighborhood.

Aguilera has lived at his apartment on Del Mar Parkway for nine years.

One man, who asked not to be identified. told FOX31 he was a friend of the victim and added he was dropping off another friend after playing soccer.

The victim’s friend told FOX31 he worked in construction and was a husband and father and a native of Guatemala.

One day after the shooting, the quiet sense of security the neighbors once felt, has been replaced with evidence of a deadly ambush.

Aguilera said he always sleeps with his front door open, to get cool air into his home, but now doesn’t feel secure these days to do that anymore.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have observed this incident, and has not yet spoken to police, to please reach out to the Aurora Police Major Crimes Homicide Unit or the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, where tipsters can remain anonymous.
