Man killed after altercation at Tesla charging station near Edgewater Public Market

DENVER (KDVR) — Police are investigating a deadly shooting near the Edgewater Public Market at the Tesla charging station.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting occurred in the 5500 block of West 20th Avenue just west of Sloan’s Lake.

“It’s a homicide investigation that happened in the middle of the day in a peaceful community we remind people to be aware of their surroundings,” Jenny Fulton, the public information officer for Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, said.

The suspect shot the other man and the victim was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. JCSO said it is now investigating the case as a homicide.

“We saw the man on the ground and the people had saw the car that came up shot him then left,” one witness told FOX31’s Courtney Fromm.

The sheriff’s office determined both men were in Teslas at the charging station, one was rented and one was owned. The two did not know each other, and the victim approached the suspect first.

The sheriff’s office said both men were armed and the victim was maced before being shot.

Authorities said the suspect called 911 and turned himself in and was detained. He is not talking but being cooperative, the sheriff’s office told Fromm.

The victim’s identity hasn’t been released, but police did say he was 33 years old.
