WELD COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A Weld County man has been sentenced to 120 years behind bars for a major drug trafficking bust in Greeley.

Back in April, a jury found 49-year-old Luke Braziel of Greeley guilty of 16 charges for his involvement in a 2019 trafficking operation.

After a week-long trial, Braziel was guilty of 14 counts of conspiracy of controlled substances and two counts of distribution of controlled substances.

On Monday, Braziel was sentenced to 120 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

The Weld County Drug Task Force began investigating the drug operation in the fall of 2019 with a wiretap investigation.

During the search, authorities discovered Braziel distributed 14 pounds of methamphetamine and heroin into the Greeley community within just one month.

“We’ll truly never know the true negative impact and the amount of secondary victims in this case,” Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Pirraglia said during the sentencing hearing. “There is not another crime that impacts this many people the way that he has. This man made a business out of spreading poison throughout our community and feeding people’s addictions.”

In addition to the Weld County Drug Task Force, the gang unit within the Greeley Police Department aided in the investigation.
