DENVER (KDVR) — A 19-year-old man was arrested in El Paso, Texas on Jan. 24 and is being held for investigation of a double shooting involving a 3-year-old on South Federal Boulevard on Dec. 28, 2020.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers arrested Guadalupe Jose Villanueva at the Paso Del Norte international crossing just before noon on Sunday. He is suspected of first-degree attempted murder – extreme indifference, first-degree assault, and second-degree attempted murder.

Amaya Wild, 18, was also taken into custody as a possible accessory to the shooting. The two were occupying a 2008 Toyota Camry arriving from Mexico with two other people. CBP officers cleared and released the other two after the arrest.

“CBP officers are diligently working to protect our nation from a wide variety of threats,” CBP El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha said. “On a daily basis CBP officers identify and apprehend people who are being sought by law enforcement. Some seek sanctuary across the border but when they return to the U.S. history has shown that they will be stopped by CBP officers.”

A 3-year-old girl and an adult male were found shot and transported to the hospital at 2969 South Federal Blvd. in late December of 2020.

Investigators blocked off the parking lot outside of a Little Caesars restaurant where the shooting took place.

The girl is expected to survive but remains in critical condition at the hospital. The man who was shot was treated and released.

Villanueva and Wild will be extradited back to Denver but it has not been reported when that will happen.
