LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — A juvenile male is in custody after his brother called police concerned for his wellbeing Wednesday morning.
The Longmont Police Department said the boy’s brother told them a family firearm was unaccounted for when he called at 9:49 a.m.
When officers went to the home near Silver Creek High School, the boy was not located and they issued a precautionary lockdown at the high school and secure status for surrounding schools.
“Out of an abundance of caution, Silver Creek High School is now in a Lockdown. District officials and law enforcement are currently investigating. We will continue to update families as more information is provided. Please avoid the area and do not go to the school. Altona, Blue Mountain, and Eagle Crest remain on Secure status,” the school’s site posted at 10:40 a.m.
LPD said a second juvenile is in custody facing criminal charges related to the incident.
There was no gunfire involved and no one was injured.
