LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — The Longmont Police Department said a stolen vehicle suspect fired several shots at multiple officers while trying to flee.
Police said the stolen truck, found at 4th Avenue and Baker Street, had four people in it and one man fled when they approached. A perimeter was immediately set up in the area.
When an officer located the suspect, the suspect fired multiple rounds at the officer while running northbound toward Longs Peak Avenue. The officer was not injured and did not return fire.
A second officer approached the suspect in an unmarked vehicle in the 100 block of Longs Peak Avenue and flipped on his emergency lights. The suspect fired at least one round at the officer, striking the driver’s side hood of the officer’s pickup truck.
The officer then struck the suspect with his truck. The officer did not fire his weapon and was not injured.
The suspect’s weapon was located after he was taken into custody. He was administered aid at the scene, then transported to the hospital with unknown injuries.
According to the school’s website, Columbine Elementary School was placed on “secure status” due to police activity in the 600 block of Baker Street.
The officer driving the truck that struck the suspect has been put on administrative leave and the Boulder County Investigations Team will conduct the use of force investigation.
