LITTLETON, Colo. (KDVR) — Littleton police have released information about and photos of the man they say tried to kill a police officer Tuesday.

That officer was shot at least three times, but because he was wearing body armor he survived and is expected to recover.

The officer was responding to reports of a drive-by shooting call, and when he arrived two people believed to be involved ran from the vehicle.

The officer chased one of the suspects, now identified as Rigoberto “Rigo” Valles Dominguez, into an apartment building, where he was shot multiple times.

Dominguez, 33, is believed to have eluded SWAT teams and investigators in the area for several hours before an armed carjacking.

“We did our best to search the area with our tactical team,s including multiple apartments in that area, before we released the scene. But it is logical to believe he was secretive somewhere in the neighborhood and then was later involved in a subsequent carjacking,” Littleton Police Chief Doug Stephens said.

Police say Dominguez shot the window of and stole a sand-colored 2002 Ford Explorer with Colorado license plate AGM-D94.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and are asked to call 720-913-7867. Police say not to approach him if spotted, as he’s considered armed and dangerous.

The officer was in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon and expected to survive.

An arrest warrant for Dominguez has been issued for attempted murder of a police officer.
