GREELEY, Colo. — About 180 people were in a church Sunday night when lightning reportedly struck its steeple, causing a fire, the Greeley Fire Department said.
Everyone inside Faith Tabernacle at 7001 28th St. was evacuated safely. No injuries were reported and the two-alarm fire was put out late Sunday night.
The call came in at 8:09 p.m.
Members of the church say they need to assess the damage but it does not appear to be a total loss.
Witnesses said they saw lightning hit the steeple, but fire officials said the cause remains under investigation.
Crews from Greeley, Windsor and Loveland responded to the incident, and surrounding agencies of Platte Valley, Eaton and Evans assisted in manning Greeley’s fire stations during the call.
