COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KDVR) — Letecia Stauch, the woman accused of killing her stepson Gannon Stauch, appeared in court in Colorado for the first time Wednesday afternoon.

Stauch was extradited last week from South Carolina, where she was arrested on multiple charges, including first-degree murder.

Gannon, 11, was last seen Jan. 27, when Stauch reported him as a runaway. An intense search began quickly after his disappearance, focusing first on areas surrounding the Stauch family home on Mandan Drive in Security, just southeast of Colorado Springs. The search later expanded to multiple areas throughout El Paso and Douglas counties.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Stauch sat quietly and did not say anything openly in court. She was seen whispering to her attorney throughout the hearing.

Senior Deputy District Attorney Michael Allen said the evidence in this case is “voluminous” with more than 100 search warrants between Colorado and South Carolina.

Investigators are still searching for Gannon’s remains. Allen says they will move forward without that evidence.

“I’m never going to say it’s easy to prosecute any case. Every case has its challenges, but I think we’ve got plenty of evidence to go forward,” said Allen.

Stauch’s next court date is scheduled for April 14 at 3 p.m.
