Multiple shots fired near downtown Castle Rock, suspect in custody

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (KDVR) — The Castle Rock Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday morning.

The department received a call around 9:45 a.m. about suspicious activity at Fourth and Wilcox Streets and shortly after, another call about a man running into traffic trying to stop cars.

Officers arrived and attempted to speak to the man, but he refused. They remained in the area and heard gunshots minutes later at the intersection of Fifth and Wilcox Streets.

The shooter was identified as the man they tried to talk to and taken into custody. He is being held at the Douglas County Detention Facility.

Investigators found the man fired multiple rounds on Wilcox Street and struck several businesses and an occupied car, but no one was hurt.

“We are very lucky that no one was injured, and that we were able to take this individual into custody and prevent any further danger to our community,” Police Chief Jack Cauley said.

Police said they retrieved a handgun and shell casings at the scene.
