LAFAYETTE, Colo. (KDVR) — Nonprofits, churches and various community groups are working to help those displaced by the Marshall Fire. Flatirons Community Church is helping with a gift card drive to assist evacuees in buying clothes, food and basic essentials.

“So many of our members want to jump in, they want to help,” said Flatirons Community Church executive lead pastor Jesse DeYoung. “They need help immediately with clothes. They need help with food.”

Those at Flatirons Community Church gave gift cards and cash before their church service on Sunday morning.

“I think all of us are touched by this tragedy,” said Heather Webb who donated gift cards.

Donations are coming from neighbors helping neighbors. DeYoung said now is the time to think about how victims will be supported moving forward.

“For us, we’re trying to figure out– what does it look like to walk with these people over the next month, two months, the whole year,” DeYoung said.

The church is recommending gift cards to places like Walmart, Target, Costco, Sams Club and local restaurants.

The lobby of each of the Flatirons Community Church campuses has a drop-off for gift cards.
