MORRISON, Colo. (KDVR) — Officials conducted door-to-door evacuations in the area near Mount Lindo to the tip of Willow Springs because of a fire burning about an acre of grass, brush and trees.

The fire sparked in the area of Highway 285 and Highway 8, near Mount Lindo. Officials said the fire was on the south side of the highway, spreading southwest.

7:26 p.m. The fire was estimated at 1 acre at 25% containment. As the sun begins to set, the fire is becoming less active, according to West Metro Fire. Responders expect to work until dark, monitor the fire overnight and mop up on Wednesday.

5:31 p.m. The evacuation center that was set up at Bear Creek High School has closed and will reopen if necessary.

5:25 p.m. West Metro Fire said retardant has been dropped on the blaze but it is now approximately up to 2 acres. The wind has died down which is helping ground crews battle the flames.

Original: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said that pre-evacuation alerts were sent to 60 homes in the surrounding area and one home near the top of the ridge has been evacuated after a fire ignited near Mount Lindo.

A LookoutAlert was sent to Willow Springs and Ken Caryl Valley residents to notify them of fire and smoke but not for evacuations or pre-evacuations.

No structures are immediately threatened, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said. A plume of smoke could be seen from a distance and the emergency dispatch for Jeffco said it has received several calls.

West Metro Fire is on the ground helping with the blaze and air support has been called in to assist.

Jeffco Sheriff’s Office said to expect road closures in the area of Highway 8, Snowcreek Lane and Tiger Bend Lane.

Belleview Avenue and Willow Springs Drive are closed along with Mt. Lindo Park to S. Turkey Creek.
