PARK COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — A wildfire burning in Park County prompted evacuations for the surrounding areas until 8 p.m., and have now been downgraded to pre-evacuations.

Badger Creek Ranch and the 5-mile radius were issued evacuation notices due to a wildfire near Latigo Loop and CR 53/McMurray Road in Hartsel, Park County tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

The fire, now named the Badger Creek Fire, is burning approximately 41 acres, the county said. The fire is moving slowly west and northwest and the evacuation order moved to pre-evacuation status at 8 p.m. in the 5-mile radius for residents living in the Badger Creek Ranch area.

An emergency shelter has been opened at the Fairplay Community Center, located at 880 Bogue Street in Fairplay, and large animals or livestock can be moved to the Fairplay Fairgrounds, the county said.
