ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — Police in Englewood are investigating an officer-shooting that occurred around 10:19 a.m.
The shooting happened at 1401 East Girard Place while police were responding to a suspicious vehicle call and found two people in a stolen car.
According to a release from the police department, the 22-year-old male driver crashed into three officers and dragged them before being shot.
“I heard a gunshot and a gunshot, and two following pops,” said Jennifer Hickinbotham who ran to see what was going on. “There was a police officer here engaging a car that looked like they were having a shootout.”
A female passenger was taken into custody at the scene.
All three officers and the suspect were taken to the hospital. The suspect did not survive.
The officers suffered non life-threatening injuries, and two had been released by Tuesday afternoon while the third remains in stable condition.
The whole thing was a shock to the people who live at the Kimberly Woods Apartments where this happened.
“I’m a little jarred. I was just up working at home and heard four gunshots. Came out on my porch and saw on officer on the ground and a woman screaming,” said Kathryn Armstrong.
The shooting will be reviewed by the 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team, which is normal procedure.
There is body camera footage of the incident, but it will not be released until all of the officers involved have been interviewed.
