AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — A driver crashed into two teenagers crossing East Colfax Avenue on foot Wednesday night, and one of them later died, according to police.

The 15-year-old pedestrians, a boy and a girl, were transported to the hospital, but the girl later died, the Aurora Police Department said. The boy is expected to survive.

The girl’s identity will be released by the Arapahoe County coroner once next-of-kin is notified.

The call came in just before 8:30 p.m., Aurora Police spokesperson Matthew Longshore said. The teens were crossing Colfax near North Moline Street when a driver hit them.

Investigators later determined the teens were crossing from the north side of East Colfax to the south when they were hit by a driver in a Jeep Wrangler, according to the department.

“The pedestrians were in the crosswalk, crossing Colfax against traffic, while the Jeep had the right-of-way,” police said in a news release.

The driver in the crash stayed on the scene. FOX31’s Evan Kruegel was on the scene as a white Jeep was towed away later in the night.

Additional factors that may have led to the crash were not immediately known. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
