Denver restaurant closed this week after double homicide

DENVER (KDVR) — Police were investigating a double homicide in northwest Denver Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the 4100 block of West 38th Avenue around 12:20 p.m., where two people were found dead inside the restaurant American Elm. Investigators were working to develop suspect information.

American Elm, a bar and restaurant on the block, released a statement about the incident, but no further information was provided.

“The American Elm team is completely devastated by today’s tragic events. We are focused on providing our staff mental health support and will be closed for the rest of the week. We are cooperating fully with the Denver Police Department in their ongoing investigation and will not be providing any further comment at this time out of respect for the families and loved ones involved,” the statement reads.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will provide the names of the victims, as well as the cause of death for both.
