Dogs attack and injure residents in Commerce City neighborhood

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (KDVR) – Update: the owners of the dogs have been identified.

Two of the mixed breed dogs’ owner, 25-year-old Victor Tarango, was issued a summons for animal attacks, running at large and vaccination and testing violations.

Rhonda Tarango, 54, was issued a summons for animal attacks and running at large violations as the owner of one of the other mixed breed dogs involved.

The animals remain impounded at an animal shelter.

All four dog bite victims have bee released from the hospital.

Multiple people were injured after three dogs attacked and bit residents in a Commerce City neighborhood.

Around 9:45 a.m., officers from the Commerce City Police Department responded to the area of 6500 Kearney St. on a report of dogs attacking citizens in the neighborhood. When officers arrived, they determined there were several victims of dog bites in the area.

Three mixed-breed dogs were identified as dogs who had bitten victims. All three animals were taken into custody by animal control officers and impounded.

Police say the injuries sustained by the adult victims were not life-threatening. One victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

“Thanks God I wasn’t out here,” said Jean Moreno, who lives a few doors down.

Investigators are working with animal control to determine the dogs’ breeds.

In January, Commerce City replaced its breed-specific pit bull ban with new laws classifying dogs as dangerous or vicious based on their conduct.

There is no further threat to the community, police say, and no animals were injured during the incident.
