ESTES PARK, Colo. (KDVR) — A man in his 20s fell from a boat into Lake Estes Thursday afternoon, prompting a rescue and recovery effort that continues into Friday.

The man, who was from out of state, was with another man and two women from Boulder when multiple people reported he fell from the rented pontoon boat and could not be found, according to the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office.

They said the group, all of them in their 20s, left the marina around 3:30 p.m., and the man fell into the water less than an hour later.

Dive teams were responding to a water rescue Thursday afternoon to the Fisherman’s Nook area of Lake Estes. Friday morning it was announced that the efforts had transitioned to a recovery.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said at 7 p.m. that their Marine Evidence Recovery Team had been called to the scene.

Loveland Fire Rescue Authority and Larimer County dive teams were on scene, as well.

The Estes Valley Fire Protection District said lake access and the lake path were closed from Fisherman’s Nook to the marina.

Lake Estes will be closed to all watercrafts while the search is ongoing.
