DENVER (KDVR) — An employee of the Denver Rescue Mission was stabbed to death outside the homeless shelter on Saturday night by a 22-year-old man who was not allowed at the facility, the Denver Police Department said.

Police tweeted the stabbing in the 4600 block of E. 48th Avenue at 9:10 p.m. and said a male was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Just before 11 a.m. on Sunday, police said the victim died and DPD was investigating the homicide. The victim was later identified as 30-year-old Fabian Olguin.

The arrest affidavit for Christopher Christian, 22, said he stayed at the homeless shelter on Friday night and was asked to leave after a fight with another resident. He was not to return to the facility for 30 days.

Witnesses told police the victim was not involved in Christian’s previous altercation with another person.

According to the affidavit, a witness told police they saw Christian walk toward the victim and possibly pull out a knife. When the victim and another person were getting into a car, Christian passed them in the parking lot, turned around, and Christian and the victim had “words.”

The witness told police Christian was holding his backpack in front of him and the victim grabbed it which started a fight between them. The victim picked up the backpack when Christian came at him and the two continued fighting, the document said. The witness told police Christian stabbed the victim, grabbed the bag and fled.
