DENVER (KDVR) — A Denver police officer who was shot Saturday night in the Sunnyside neighborhood underwent surgery and is in stable condition.

The officer, who was shot in the leg, was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

Police have not yet made an arrest, and an investigation remains ongoing.

According to Denver police, there was a large police presence in the 4400 block of Alcott Street, where officers were searching for the suspect.

Annah H, a resident in the neighborhood, shared photos of the police presence around her home.

During an update around 2:45 a.m., Division Chief Ron Thomas said there was a secure perimeter set up for several blocks in all directions and that people in the area should remain in their homes.

The officer, who Thomas identified as male, has been with DPD for about five years.

Sources tell FOX31 the officer was responding to a trespassing call when they were shot.
