DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Police Department investigated a shooting that injured an East High School student Monday afternoon.

Eastbound 17th Avenue was closed due to the investigation.

Police were called to the area at 2:33 p.m. Officers found a 16-year-old East High School student in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said in a press conference the student was transported to the hospital with a “very poor prognosis.”

East High School was put on secure perimeter status after the shooting. According to its website, classes at East High School end for the day at 3:20 p.m.

The suspect vehicle, a white Kia Sportage, was located in northeast Denver by officers at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Elmira Street.

After a short pursuit, two suspects were arrested without further incident.
