Denver police respond to shots fired in RiNo, suspect in custody

DENVER — The Denver Police Department says a man was taken into custody after officers responded to shots fired in the River North neighborhood midday Saturday.

DPD said the incident started about 11:30 a.m. near 27th and Blake streets.

Police Chief Paul Pazen said that when officers responded, they heard a gun being fired. They apprehended a man who was shooting a rifle, police said.

No injuries have been reported.

No officers fired their weapons while taking the suspect into custody, according to Pazen.

“The community is safe,” Pazen said.

Police urged people to avoid the area. Officers closed Blake and Walnut between 26th and 29th streets during the investigation.

The man’s name was not released.

Editor’s Note: DPD initially said officers were near 22nd Street, not 27th. This information has been corrected.
