Man shoots himself during standoff with Colorado Springs police

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A man involved in a standoff shot himself in the head on Tuesday, the Colorado Springs Police Department said.

The man was not identified after police were called to an apartment complex in the area of the Villages of Springs Ranch on a report of shots fired.

A standoff followed when the man continued to fire shots, police said. A SWAT team was later called in.

Residents were told to shelter in place during the standoff.
