COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Colorado Springs Police Department identified the officer who was shot Monday in the exchange of gunfire that killed El Paso County sheriff’s deputy Micah Flick.

Det. Marcus Yanez was treated for injuries and released after the shooting. He has worked for the Colorado Springs Police Department since October 2007.

The police department also identified the shooting suspect as 19-year-old Manuel Zetina of Colorado Springs. He was killed in the exchange.

Members of the auto theft task force found a stolen vehicle from Colorado Springs.

Police said the vehicle was in the 4200 block of Galley Road where detectives saw the suspect get out of the vehicle.

At 3:55 p.m. Monday, the detectives made contact with Zetina and a struggle ensued.

Police said Zetina drew a handgun and began firing. Three task force detectives returned gunfire.

Flick was shot and killed. Sgt. Jake Abendschan and deputy Scott Stone were wounded by the gunfire.

A semiautomatic handgun belonging to Zetina was recovered, police said.

Thomas Villaneuva was walking in the area and was shot through the chest. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

A memorial fund has been established for Flick’s family.
