WESTMINSTER, Colo. (KDVR) — A vehicle with a 15-year-old dog named Solo inside was stolen on Friday, Westminster police said.
Solo’s owner, Caroline Wilson, said her friends took Solo for a drive and left him in the car for less than a minute when it was stolen. They left the car running to keep the dog warm.
The vehicle was parked in front of the Tropical Smoothie Café at 73rd Avenue and Federal Boulevard and stolen at 4:36 p.m., police said.
The stolen vehicle is a 2006 navy-blue Subaru Forester with a North Carolina plate: 42M1BP.
Wilson and her friends were in front of Coors Field on Saturday passing out flyers with Solo’s picture, hoping to spread the word and get information on where she might be.
“I’m just hoping that someone somewhere will recognize the car, maybe in their neighborhood or recognize (Solo) walking around if the person kicked her out. I just really hope that this can bring her home,” Wilson said.
Wilson is heartbroken but said she’s not upset with the person who stole the car and Solo.
“I feel like if you have the ability to steal someone’s car and dog you probably have some personal issues going on. I hope they get help but I don’t think that stealing my dog is going to help them. I really need her and I hope they find the conscience to return her whether it’s anonymously — no questions asked,” Wilson said.
Wilson said she has had Solo since she was 7 years old. Solo is a Basset hound and Beagle mix and was not wearing a collar and has not been chipped.
A reward is being offered for information about the vehicle and/or the dog and can remain anonymous. Contact the Westminster Police Department at 303-658-4360 or metro Denver Crime Stoppers.
A GoFundMe has been created to help cover the costs of the search.
