EVERGREEN, Colo. — A busy area near the El Rancho/Evergreen Parkway exit of Interstate 70 in Jefferson County was evacuated Sunday afternoon due to a threat of explosives inside a vehicle.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the evacuation was for a 300-foot area near Swede Gulch Road and Highway 74 (Evergreen Parkway). The location is just south of I-70.

The call reporting possible explosives came in at 4:40 p.m.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said its bomb squad found no explosives inside the vehicle. It said the vehicle’s driver, a man from Evergreen, was taken into custody and charged with felony false reporting of an incendiary device.

On Monday, the suspect was identified as 61-year-old Michael Longfellow.
