BOULDER, Colo. (KDVR) — Boulder police said officers rescued two people in a reported hostage situation Monday night and a suspect is in custody after barricading himself inside a home.

Police announced the situation had ended shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police were asking people to avoid the 3300 block of Broadway near Iris Avenue as they work at the scene. Late Monday night, during a time when police called the scene “very active,” officers evacuated people from nearby homes.

At 6:34 a.m. Tuesday, police reopened the road to all traffic.

The suspect was believed to be armed with multiple firearms, according to police.

Police said an officer fired a shot during the rescue of the two people, but no one was hit. Police said they had no deaths reported as of an update at 11:13 p.m.

The Boulder Police Department said it learned of the incident from a report by Lafayette police Monday night.
