HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (KDVR) – UPDATE: The woman found dead and the suspect believed to have shot her have been identified.

Jamie Sullivan, 49, is the deceased woman. Art Valentine, 55, has been identified as the suspect who shot her.

EARLIER STORY: A woman was found shot to death in her car and the suspect was later found dead Saturday.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Captain Darren Weekly said it is believed that the suspect “died by his own hands” and that the victim and suspect were “known to each other.”

DCSO said officers were at an “active crime scene” in the area of Park Central Drive in Highlands Ranch Saturday morning.

Police told FOX31 they received a call at 8:55 a.m. about a woman found shot and killed in her car in a parking lot in the Central Park shopping complex.

Officers added they were looking for a suspect who may be dangerous. The only description they gave of the suspect is that he was a white male driving a silver SUV.

The area has many restaurants, including Mad Greens, Starbucks and Shake Shack. It is also located next to a hospital.

One person at the complex said, “Should we be here? That was the first thing that came to mind.”

On Twitter, the sheriff’s office said to avoid the area, and if anyone was in the area, they should shelter in place and report “anything that may seem suspicious.”

“Kind of stopped and took pause. I thought I was coming to work then obviously the day kind of changed,” another person at the scene said.

The identities of the deceased have not been released.
