GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. (KDVR) — UPDATE (6:07 p.m.): The suspect in the barricade case has peacefully surrendered after three and a half hours of negotiation, according to Greenwood Village Police Department.

Earlier: During a media briefing Thursday afternoon, police gave more information on the active barricade situation at the Extended Stay America in Greenwood Village.

According to the briefing given by Deputy Chief of Police of Greenwood Village David Oliver, an officer responded to a bank robbery call at the Key Bank located at 9250 E. Arapahoe Road. An officer responded around 10:38 a.m., approximately four minutes after the call came in, locating a Black male who then ran away from the officer and through the Target parking lot.

The police then cited two gunfire exchanges between the suspect and the officer. Police believe the suspect shot first. No injuries have been reported on behalf of the officer or the suspect.

The suspect then ran to the Extended Stay America hotel — which is next to a Sleep Inn — and proceeded to barricade within the hotel. Police believe the suspect to be confined in a single room.

Guests were ordered to shelter in place before an evacuation was conducted. The evacuations of both the Sleep Inn and the Extended Stay America are completed at this time.

Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Denver Police Department, Aurora Police Department, South Metro Fire and Rescue, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force are involved in this case. Crisis negotiators are working to make contact with the suspect. There has been no contact with the suspect as of this time.

The identity of the suspect and the officer involved in the gunfire have not yet been released. Police believe the suspect is a guest at the Extended Stay America and they could not whether the suspect was acting alone.
