ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The Colorado State Patrol station in Limon said there were at least nine commercial motor vehicles involved in a pileup on Interstate 70 near Strasburg on Wednesday. On Thursday, the road was reopened around 2:30 p.m.

The Colorado Department of Transportation closed I-70 in both directions from Airpark to the Kansas border at around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday due to safety concerns.

Nine semis and 12 cars were involved in the pileup.

CSP said cleanup efforts resumed Thursday morning. It was a lengthy process, as two semi-trailers had to be offloaded before they could be safely removed.

At around 7:33 a.m. Thursday, CDOT reopened the westbound traffic between the Kansas border to E-470. CSP said eastbound I-70 will open from Deer Trail to Kansas soon after.

According to CSP Master Trooper Gary Cutler, in total, four vehicles remained on the highway and crews were working to get them unloaded before they can be cleaned up.

No injuries were reported.
