ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. — Statewide law enforcement are on the lookout for an armed carjacking suspect and two others who targeted two women who stopped to help them at a rollover crash near Agate.
The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened in an area near Colorado State Highway 86 and County Road 125 at around 5:30 am Sunday morning.
When the passersby stopped to help, the man pulled a handgun and took their vehicle. No injuries were reported.
“The should be really commended for stopping to help people who were in what looked like a very serious accident,” said investigation sergeant Jonathan Rolff. “Once that gun came out, the did exactly what they should have done. They gave them what they wanted which – in the end – could have saved their lives.”
Law enforcement statewide have been alerted to keep watch for the stolen vehicle:

At the time of the crime, the man wore a black jacket, black sweat pants, black socks and had a tan, military-style backpack. He stood about 5-foot-10 with a skinny build. The gun he was using is described as a dark colored semi-automatic handgun.
Two other women fled with the man. The sheriff’s office says both are Hispanic. The first is approximately 5’7″ tall with long curly black hair and a heavy build. The other is approximately 5’10” tall with acne scars on her face and long dark straight hair. They say she was wearing a beanie and a light jacket.
