ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (KDVR) — An 81-year-old Englewood man is accused of violently killing his wife and daughter.
Police said Reginald Maclaren called to report the murders just after 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 25. During the call, he allegedly said he knew the person who killed them and that a hammer had been used in the murders.
Investigators said officers discovered the remains of Maclaren’s wife and daughter inside black roll-away trash cans in the living room of an apartment at 901 Englewood Pkwy.
One of the bodies had been dismembered, according to police.
Investigators said an ax and a saw were used during the murders.
After responding to the apartment, Maclaren was taken to the hospital where police later interviewed him. During that interview, police said he admitted to killing the two women.
Police said during the interview with Maclaren he told them he had recently lost his job and would no longer be able to afford rent. He said he had often dealt with the homeless population and “knew what a miserable life that was,” the arrest affidavit said.
Allegedly he chose to carry out the plan on March 25 because he was going to have to vacate the apartment, according to the affidavit.
Englewood Police Division Chief Tracy Jones said all responding officers are currently getting professional and peer mental health support.
