EARLIER STORY: The Aurora Police Department released new details Thursday about a crime spree that left one person dead on Wednesday.

APD said the crime spree reportedly started around 3:21 p.m. in the 14000 block of E. Idaho Drive when the suspect allegedly robbed a woman of her purse at gunpoint and demanded the keys to her car. She refused to hand the keys over and the suspect fired shots and left the location on foot.

The crime spree consisted of eight carjackings, one attempted carjacking, two home invasions, one burglary and one homicide, according to APD.

“A lot of these people were either at intersections or at businesses or in shopping centers. It was just he found people inside their car, forcefully removed them at gunpoint. Extremely scary situation,” Aurora Police Department spokesperson Matt Longshore said.

Police do not yet have a motive. They have 18 different crime scenes to investigate, where they are conducting interviews and collecting evidence.

“We have investigators from basically all of our units. We have district detectives, we have gang robbery detectives, we have our major crime unit detectives. All of these people working together to piece together this case. The important part is he is in custody and not doing this, thankfully. Seventy minutes of pure terror in the city of Aurora and Denver ended with him in custody,” Longshore said.
