6-year-old dies in accidental shooting

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (KDVR) — Fort Collins police are investigating after a child was killed in an accidental shooting on Sunday evening.

Police responded to a home in the 1200 block of East Lincoln Avenue at 6:22 p.m. after a child reportedly shot himself.

When police arrived on scene, they found a six-year-old boy with a gunshot wound.

The child was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.

The coroner’s office identified the child as Roy Summers.

“Tragic events like this have a lasting impact on everyone involved, including family, friends, and first responders. Words cannot begin to express the depth of our condolences for this devastating loss of a young life,” said Chief Jeff Swoboda.

Summers’ death was determined by the coroner’s office to be an accident.

Police have not said if any chargers will be filed. An investigation is on-going by the Fort Collins Police Department.
