TELLER COUNTY, Colo. — Officials have lifted mandatory evacuation orders for the High Chateau Fire burning in Teller County in the mountains west of Colorado Springs.
As of Saturday evening, the fire had burned 1,423 acres, according to authorities. Officials in neighboring Park County earlier estimated acreage at 1,500.
The fire is 95 percent contained.
188 people are working on the fire.
Evacuations were ordered the afternoon of June 29, soon after the fire started.
While more than 1,700 people were displaced from their homes at one point, as of Saturday morning, all mandatory evacuation orders had been lifted. However, several subdivisions remain under a pre-evacuation notice. Click here for a full list.
Additionally, all previously closed county roads have reopened.
Four to five structures burned in the fire. It is unclear what kind of structures were destroyed.
A sheriff’s office spokesman says the fire started on around 1 p.m. on June 29 on two acres of forested land before it moved into the High Chateau subdivision. Its cause is under investigation.
A Type 1 Incident Management Team began managing firefighting efforts on July 1.
