GREELEY, Colo. — Twenty-nine people were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning at a weekend event, the Greeley Police Department said.

Greeley police Lt. Aaron Carmichael said a generator being used at a taco stand outside an event on Saturday night leaked exhaust into the building.

The building, located in the 1600 block of Ninth Street was being used for a private event, according to a spokesman with the Greeley Fire Department.

Carmichael said people were unable to walk, some had seizures and some lost consciousness. Common symptoms include headaches, dizziness, weakness and confusion.

Banner Health said there were 34 patients admitted in connection to this. Eight stayed overnight Saturday and as of Sunday everyone was released.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends against using a generator inside a building within 20 feet of any window, door or vent.

The CDC also recommends using a battery-powered carbon monoxide detector while using a generator.
