DENVER (KDVR) — Two teens were taken to the hospital with unknown injuries after a hit-and-run pedestrian crash Monday afternoon, the Denver Police Department confirmed to FOX31.
The crash happened on Central Park Boulevard between 56th Avenue and Central Park Boulevard, near Northfield High School.
The victims were students and were taken to Children’s Hospital, Denver Police said. Their names and conditions have not yet been released.
Police said a juvenile suspect was in custody in connection to the hit-and-run, and that official charges would be determined by the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Witness: Driver ‘just took off’
FOX31’s Shaul Turner spoke with a parent who saw the crash.
“They got hit by a car and they just took off,” he said.
A school backpack, a water bottle and clothing remained in the street next to a black bumper torn from the speeding car.
“My heart’s broken,” said resident Matthew Karm, who warned others that drivers were speeding in the area.
As neighbors and many parents walked their kids home, they took a moment to share their concerns for the parents of the victims.
“There’s families right now that are upset because their children are hurt for a senseless reason,” Karm said.
