ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. — Two people are in custody after allegedly firing a gun at a large rodeo event in Elbert County Saturday evening, according to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.

Initial reports of the incident came from Comanche Creek Road in northern Elbert County, where between 1,000 and 1,500 people were attending a rodeo. The area is between Kiowa and Bennett, roughly one hour southeast of central Denver.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says a fight broke out, and one of the people pulled out a gun and started shooting. Officials are unsure if anyone was injured by gunfire, however two people who were working at the rodeo event were treated for minor injuries due to the fight.

Two men were contacted leaving the event and taken into custody for charges related to the shooting. The identities of the suspects have not been released.
