ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — A 10-year-old who was riding an electric scooter was killed after being struck by a vehicle Saturday night.

“Just went to go hang out with some friends, ride around the neighborhood, and just didn’t come home,” said neighbor Amber Lucero.

According to the Arvada Police Department, officers received a call about a crash in the 9300 block of Candelas Parkway at around 7:39 p.m. Saturday.

APD said a 10-year-old was riding an electric scooter when they were hit by a vehicle in the area.

“It could happen to anybody, any of our children,” said Lucero.

Police confirmed the driver of the vehicle did stay on scene and was cooperative with officers.

APD said the 10-year-old died from their injuries early Sunday morning.

“We are pretty close, that community, to be there and support them with whatever they need,” said Lucero.

Lucero said she sees cars flying up and down this particular block all the time. She warns others who drive near this area.

“Be more cautious, slow down,” said Lucero

APD is investigating the crash to determine if charges are applicable.
