AURORA, Colo. (KDVR) — Update April 28, 4:45 p.m.: Aurora Police investigators say the driver disregarded the lowered level crossing signals as the train approached. The train was traveling eastbound, and the sole occupant of the vehicle was sent to a local hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
There were 43 people on the A-Line train, two of which were evaluated for injuries, but not sent to the hospital.
The car driver is a man in his 30’s. Police do not know whether drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash.
Original story: One person has been seriously injured after the car they were driving was hit by a train, the Aurora Police Department said.
The crash happened near the intersection of Chambers Road and Smith Road, and involves an A-Line train.
Aurora police say Chambers is partially closed in the area and RTD says it is using buses to replace train service between 61st and Pena.
It is unclear at this point if any passengers on the train were injured.
