DENVER (KDVR) — Update (Jan 28) – Denver police say a second victim from the crash has died. Read more here.

Original (Jan. 23) – One person was killed in a crash involving a Denver Fire Department truck at Speer Boulevard and Broadway on Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. when DFD says the engine had sirens and lights on and had slowed to clear the intersection heading to a call of smoke in a building.

One firefighter and two other passengers involved are being treated for injuries, DFD says.

One of the victims was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The victim killed in the crash was identified Wednesday morning as 38-year-old Monica Charles.

“The entire Denver Fire Department extends our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of the victims of this tragic accident,” Fire Chief Desmond Fulton said. “We are committed to cooperating fully with this investigation and are hopeful to prevent this type of tragedy from occurring in the future.”

The Denver Police Traffic Investigations Unit and the Denver District Attorney’s office will conduct a full investigation into the incident.
