Jury selection to begin in trial of Dynel Lane

Dynel Lane

BOULDER, Colo. — The process of selecting a jury for the trial of Dynel Lane begins Thursday morning.

Lane is accused of assaulting a 27-year-old pregnant woman last year and cutting her unborn baby from her womb. The baby did not survive.

Three-hundred potential jurors have been summoned to the Boulder County Courthouse, where painful and emotional testimony is expected to be given.

Lane is facing charges of attempted murder and the unlawful termination of a pregnancy.

On Wednesday, a judge said she will allow prosecutors to argue that Lane intended to commit a fetal abduction when she allegedly assaulted Michelle Wilkins in March and cut out her baby.

Wilkins talked about the attact on the “Dr. Phil Show” last year.

Wilkins said she went to Lane’s apartment to buy baby clothing when she was attacked. Prosecutors said Lane then took the baby to the hospital and told doctors the baby was hers.

Lane is being held on a $2 million bond. She’s facing 140 years in prison. The trial is expected to begin Tuesday and last 10 days.
