International opinion may be helping prairie dogs in Aurora neighborhood

AURORA, Colo. — Prairie dogs have been populating the Aurora neighborhood of Murphy Creek and it’s 18-hole golf course in ever increasing numbers. You can see them around the perimeter of the city’s eastern-most neighborhood.

For some Murphy Creek residents, cute has turned into critical.

“I think they’re starting to become a problem. I’m in favor of eliminating them if we could do that,” Murphy Creek resident Tim Rash said.

According to some Murphy Creek residents, the homeowners association agreed to consult an exterminator at the last meeting.

But a funny thing happened on the way to the forum. A petition was created to save the prairie dogs on the website petitionsite.com.

Created by P. Holmes, the petition has been signed by prairie dog loving people from around the globe. British Columbia, Spain, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Slovakia and Germany, just to name a few.

“I don’t think we need a worldwide opinion here in Murphy Creek to decide what to do with our problem,” Rash said.

To kill or not to kill, that is the question that Summit Association Management doesn’t want to answer. The HOA said there are no plans to kill prairie dogs at this time.

Has world opinion changed minds? Nobody’s talking but the prairie dogs.
