PITKIN COUNTY, Colo. — Independence Pass in Pitkin County opened for the summer season Thursday.

The pass runs between Aspen and Twin Lakes.

It closes during the winter months because of adverse conditions on the road. Colorado Department of Transportation crews were able to clear the road and open it in time for the Memorial Day weekend.

Mount Evans Road is also open. Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park will remain closed because of snow depths and impending weather.
