I-25 lane-widening project to begin August

Southbound Interstate 25

DENVER — The Colorado Department of Transportation announced it will begin a multi-million dollar project to widen Interstate 25 in south Denver in early August.

The I-25 Lane Balance Project will widen the interstate between Lincoln Avenue and County Line Road from six lanes to eight lanes, CDOT said.

Construction is slated to begin early August and will last approximately two years.

CDOT said the $35 million project will enhance the highway’s traffic capacity, replace existing asphalt with concrete, eliminate the East Frontage Road, create a pedestrian-friendly trail connection and improve ramp connections along the stretch of roadway.

During construction, three lanes will be maintained in both directions to allow traffic through, CDOT said. However, some night-time lane closures will be implemented.
