LONGMONT, Colo. — Residents of Longmont are rallying together in support of Michelle Wilkins, the pregnant woman who was stabbed and had her fetus removed after answering a Craigslist ad for baby clothes that were for sale.

Alisha Bunker, a lifetime Longmont resident, didn’t know Wilkins before last week but as a mother feels connected and knew she needed to do something to bring light to a dark situation.

“I heard this story and I was like, ‘Oh no, no, no.  We cannot let this ,define this community.  There is way too much good here,'” said Bunker.

Wanting to make sure Wilkins knows she has the love and support of the whole community is how The White Heart Project began. “I did choose white just because of what it represents in innocence and purity,”  she said.

Less than a week after the idea came to life, The White Heart Project has taken off.

On Friday and Saturday a Boulder art gallery hosted free art making evenings.  Individuals also sent in homemade ones by the hundreds.

By Sunday, Bunker had amassed a collection of more than 500 white paper hearts.

“Its never been just a hand-off like, here’s my heart. It’s, here’s my heart and let’s talk,” she said of the conversations started by the small act of kindness.
Monday morning Bunker hand delivered every one to Wilkins’ hospital room.

“It’s not that we can ever make that wrong right, but that we can bring positive action after something that’s so negative,” Bunker said.

She plans on making another delivery later in the week.
