JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A Jefferson County neighborhood is hoping to stop a developer from building more than 400 homes.

Residents who live around Applewood Golf Course in unincorporated Jefferson County are hoping to convince Carlson Associates to back down.

“It really doesn’t jive with the neighborhood,” resident Brian Hansen said. “They didn’t engage the community and they are kind of just forcing it through at this point without our input.”

Molson Coors owns 145 acres in and around Applewood Golf Course. Carlson is under contract to purchase the land and filed a preliminary request to rezone the property.

At a public meeting Tuesday night, Carlson gave an option for the public to purchase the property at the same price it paid Molson Coors: $16 million.

“I think there are misconceptions about what the impacts are going to be,” Scott Carlson said. “Most people are resistant to change.”

Tuesday’s meeting attracted more than a thousand angry residents.

Jefferson County commissioners and the zoning-planning commission will decide if rezoning will move forward.
