DENVER — Patients in the middle of the drug contamination scandal at Swedish Medical Center are learning about the lawsuit filed against the hospital.
Attorney James Avery filed a class-action lawsuit on behalf of 50 patients last week against Swedish along with two other hospitals where former surgical tech Rocky Allen worked.
Tuesday night, patients involved in the case learned more about the litigation. The lawsuit claims Allen has a history that should have raised red flags during the hiring process.
One woman whose husband had surgery at Swedish while Allen worked there said initial blood tests came back negative, but they’re waiting for results from the next round of tests.
“My husband wasn’t kissing and he wasn’t holding me,” Marty Anderson said. “I finally approached him and he said [it was] ‘because he was afraid he would give me something.'”
Swedish said last week that hospital staff reacted quickly and appropriately to the incident.
